GU's Salvador Diaz selected to ABCA All-Region second team

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Gallaudet University junior catcher Salvador Diaz (Norwalk, Calif.) was selected to the 2023 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Division III All-Region 4 second team. This is Diaz's second consecutive selection to the ABCA All-Region second team.

Diaz was previously named to the United East all-conference second team at catcher this season. Diaz ranks fourth in NCAA Division III for triples (8) and triples per game (0.22), 18th in doubles per game (0.50), 23rd in doubles (19), 45th in slugging percentage (.750) and 89th in batting average (.417). Diaz leads the United East in doubles (19), triples (8), caught stealing (13 runners caught), second in sacrifice flies (5), sixth in hit by pitch (8), slugging percentage (.750), total chances (229), seventh in on base percentage + slugging percentage (1.208),putouts (194) and eighth in batting average (.417). Diaz had six three-hit plus games, recorded 19 multi-hit games, hit for the cycle against Wells (April 15) and had 10 multi-RBI games.

Diaz is one of 15 United East players on the All-Region 4 teams.

Gallaudet has 11 ABCA All-Region selections in its history.

The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. III All-America Committee.

ABCA/Rawlings All-Region first-team selections are nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. ABCA/Rawlings All-Americans will be announced on the evening of Thursday, June 1. The ABCA Region All-Defensive teams for all divisions will be announced on Monday, June 19. The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams for all divisions will be announced Wednesday, June 21.

The ABCA All-America team was first recognized in 1949 and now includes nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division, and high school. ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007.
