WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University baseball team played its first night game at Hoy Field this season here Friday evening against Lancaster Bible College in a United East Conference game. The Bison dropped a 13-4 decision to the Chargers in nine innings.
Gallaudet (7-21, 1-9 United East) got on the scoreboard with two runs in the fourth inning when junior catcher
Salvador Diaz (Norwalk, Calif.) doubled off the left-field fence to bring home seniors
Darren Drolsbaugh (Lansdale, Pa.) and
Austin Sliva-Wynne (Rosenberg, Texas) to knot the game at 2-2.
Lancaster Bible (6-17, 3-7 United East) regained the lead in the fourth inning with two runs scored.
The Bison added an additional run in the bottom of the seventh when Diaz (2-for-3, three RBI) skyed a fly ball to left field as Sliva-Wynne (1-for-5, two runs, one triple) tagged up from third base and scored on the sacrifice fly to cut the Charger lead down to two runs, 5-3.
LBC's bats came to life in the top of the eighth as the Chargers pushed across seven runs.
The Chargers and Bison each scored a run in the ninth. Sophomore
Johnathan Guerrero (Indio, Calif.) singled home Drolsbaugh (2-for-3, two runs, two walks) to cap the runs in the game.
Freshman
Eli Solomon (Flushing, N.Y.) got the start on the mound for the Bison and pitched well as he logged six innings and matched his season-high of three strikeouts as the Chargers scored four runs on seven hits and two walks.
LBC starting pitcher Andrew Workman (1-1) got the win as he allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits, walked three and struck out nine in six innings.
Charger outfielder and relief pitcher Dylan Witkowski finished with a perfect 5-for-5 day at the plate with three runs scored, two RBI and one double.

Gallaudet will play two more games against the Chargers tomorrow (Saturday, April 8) at Hoy Field with the first game set to begin at noon.
