Gallaudet swept by Marywood

FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The Gallaudet University baseball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader to Marywood University here Monday at the Lawnwood Baseball Complex.

The Pacers defeated the Bison 17-5 and 17-11 in the two seven-inning games.Gallaudet (6-11) knotted the first game at 2-2 in the top of the second inning thanks to RBI hits by freshmen Darico Castillo (Passaic, N.J.) and Brandon Drolsbaugh (Lansdale, Pa.).

Marywood (3-2) answered with four runs in the second and fourth innings to build a 10-2 lead. The Bison pushed across three runs in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit to six, 11-5. The Pacers added six more runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Castillo (two doubles) and junior Shea Sliva-Wynne (Rosenberg, Texas) led the Bison with two hits each which included a combined three doubles.

Junior starting pitcher Joshua Dugan (San Antonio, Texas) took the loss on the mound.

Marywood jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning of the second game. The Pacers added six runs in the second and added three runs in the fifth and four insurance runs in the seventh.

GU had seven batters record two or more hits led by senior Austin Sliva-Wynne (Rosenberg, Texas) and freshman Brandon Washington (Citronelle, Ala.) with three hits each. The Bison recorded seven extra-base hits as the Sliva-Wynne brothers had two doubles each.

Freshman starting pitcher Eli Solomon (Flushing, N.Y.) took the loss on the hill for the Bison.
