WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University men's basketball lost to St. Mary's College of Maryland, 73-54, here Wednesday in a United East Conference game in the Field House on Black History Month night.
Gallaudet (1-21, 0-13 United East) spotted St. Mary's (10-12, 5-8 United East) an early 11-0 lead which later ballooned to 18-1 just over six minutes into the contest.
The Bison slowly chipped away at the margin and got it down to eight points, 26-18, as the buff and blue went on a 17-8 run during an eight-minute span. St. Mary's closed out the opening half and took a 33-24 lead into halftime.

Dr. Glenn B. Anderson, '68 & H-'17, the chair of the Gallaudet University Board of Trustees and one of the first African Americans inducted into the Gallaudet Athletics Hall of Fame in 1995, spoke to the crowd during Gallaudet's Black History Month celebration on Wednesday night. Anderson, the first African American alumnus of Gallaudet to earn a doctoral degree (New York University, 1982), shared stories of his time as a student and student-athlete at Gallaudet during the 1960s on Kendall Green. Anderson lettered in basketball and track and field during his time as a Gallaudet student.
In the second half, Gallaudet was able to trim the St. Mary's lead down to four points at the 15:33 mark when sophomore forward
Blessed Mbogo (Silver Spring, Md.) drained a 3-pointer to cut the Seahawks' lead to 38-34.
After two quick baskets by St. Mary's, Mbogo hit another 3-pointer to cut the margin to five, 42-37.
That was as close as Gallaudet got.
St. Mary's recorded eight consecutive points and tallied 13 of the next 15 points scored to increase its lead to 16 points, 55-39, midway through the second half.
Mbogo led the Bison with 15 points and five rebounds while as eight other players scored eight or less points in the loss.
The Seahawks were led by Micah Henry (19 points), Daryn Alexander (15 points, 10 rebounds) and Naz Fisher (13 points, 12 rebounds) as St. Mary's scored 50 points in the paint.
