WASHINGTON – The 2023 Bison Baseball Classic wrapped here Sunday on a blustery day at Hoy Field as three games got played to complete the six-game tournament.
Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) won the tournament with a perfect 3-0 record. The Tigers started the morning with a suspended game with SUNY Canton in the bottom of the fourth inning down 3-1. RIT rallied to win 5-4 behind strong pitching on the cold day. The Tigers completed the day with a 29-1 win over the Gallaudet University Bison.
Gallaudet (3-4) was aggressive on the base paths in the fourth inning after RIT starting pitcher Alex Slotter (1-0) walked freshman shortstop
Darico Castillo (Passaic, N.J.) on a wild pitch, which allowed junior catcher
Salvador Diaz (Norwalk, Calif.) to race home to score the run for Gallaudet.
Senior starting pitcher
Austin Sliva-Wynne (Rosenberg, Texas) threw four innings and allowed 11 runs on 14 hits, walked three and struck out one. RIT, who served as the home team in the match-up with the Bison, scored two or more runs in every inning.
The second game of three on Sunday featured Washington College and SUNY Canton as the Shoremen (2-3) won 17-1 over the Roos (0-3).
