GU begins Bison Baseball Classic against Washington College

WASHINGTON – The 2023 Bison Baseball Classic got underway here Friday at Hoy Field as the Gallaudet University Bison tangled with Washington College (Md.) in a nine-inning non-conference game that the Shoremen won, 19-5.

Washington (1-2) got on the scoreboard with a run in the first inning and four in the second.

Gallaudet (2-3) pushed across a run in the bottom of the third when sophomore Johnathan Guerrero (Indio, Calif.) singled to left field to bring home freshman Eli Solomon (Flushing, N.Y.).

The Shoremen added another six runs to take a 11-1 lead into the seventh inning. A Bison miscue kept the top of the seventh alive as Washington scored seven times.

Guerrero added a second RBI with a single to center field to plate senior Darren Drolsbaugh (Lansdale, Pa.) in the eighth inning. Freshman Darico Castillo (Passaic, N.J.) followed with a two-run single to right field as senior Austin Sliva-Wynne (Rosenberg, Texas) and Guerrero scampered home.

GU added one more run in the bottom of the ninth when junior Joshua Dugan (San Antonio, Texas) singled home Guerrero (3-for-5, two runs, two RBI) to complete the scoring for the Bison.

Freshman Brandon Drolsbaugh (Lansdale, Pa.) took the loss on the mound as he surrendered 11 runs on 13 hits, six walks and one strikeout in 4.2 innings pitched. Freshman Christina Elsbury (Uniontown, Ohio) pitched two innings before freshman Jason Marple (Downingtown, Pa.) threw the final 2.1 innings.
