Bison tangle with Tigers in Harold J. Brodie Classic

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Gallaudet University men's basketball team went up to Upstate New York to take on Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in the Harold J. Brodie Classic on Friday evening and lost, 77-62, at Clark Gymnasium.

RIT (4-3) jumped out early with a 17-2 lead, behind four 3-pointers in the opening five minutes of play. 

Gallaudet (0-11) cut the lead with a 13-5 run resulting in a 22-15 score. Junior forward Blessed Mbogo (Silver Spring, Md.) scored eight points in that run. RIT bounced back with a 26-13 run to complete the first half with a 48-28 score.

Bison outscored Tigers 39-29 in the final 21 minutes but RIT's 1st half performance was too much for GU.

Gallaudet had three different players in double digits led by Mbogo who finished with a team best 18 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Samer Sawan (Toronto, Ontario) added a career-high 17 points. Sawan scored five shots from 3-point range off the bench. Junior center Alex Antsiferov (North Charleston, S.C.) scored 10 points and grabbed eight boards.

The Tigers had four players in double figures led by guards Brody Brown and Brock Bowen who scored 15 points each.

  • Junior forward Enow Otto Jr. (Waldorf, Md.) added seven points and grabbed four rebounds
  • Sophomore Bruce Brewer Jr. (Santa Fe, N.M.) passed his personal best with seven assists
  • GU matched its season-high with eight 3-pointers
  • The Bison scored 28 points in the paint

Gallaudet will play Bryant & Stratton tomorrow (Saturday, Dec. 9) at 1 p.m. on the second day of the Harold J. Brodie Classic hosted by RIT.
