FARMVILLE, Va. - The Gallaudet men's basketball team played Longwood University, a Division I school, on Monday midday and lost 92-61 in the new Joan Perry Brock Center.
There were 12 lead changes and seven ties as Gallaudet (1-12) gave Longwood (10-1) a hard time in the first 26 minutes of play.Â
Junior forward
Blessed Mbogo (Silver Spring, Md.) had a career game as he scored 30 points and made six 3-pointers to go with four steals and three rebounds to pace the Bison.
GU hung around with the Lancers in the opening minutes thanks to Mbogo's 3-point shooting as the Bison took a 10-7 lead five minutes in.
Later on in the first half, the Bison went on a 9-0 run as GU led 29-23 with 8:23 left before the half.Â
Longwood got back into the game with two different runs. The second of which helped the Lancers take a 46-36 lead into halftime.
Junior forward
Enow Otto Jr. (Waldorf, Md.) began the second half with a quick jump shot then Mbogo swished a 3-pointer as Gallaudet only trailed by seven points, 48-41, minutes into the new half.
The Lancers pulled away from the Bison to take the win.Â
Sophomore guard
Kyle Florio (Franklin, Mass.) added nine points from 3-point range off the bench and passed out four assists. Otto Jr. added six points, two assists and one rebound in 18 minutes played.
The Lancers had four players in double figures led by 7-foot-0 center Szymon Zapala who scored 13 points.
Today's game was not the first time Longwood played a United East opponent as Lancers played St.Mary's (Md.) College earlier this year on Nov. 11 and won 95-43 at home.Â

- Sophomore guard Samer Sawan (Toronto, Ontario) added six points and two reboundsÂ
- Sophomore Bruce Brewer Jr. (Santa Fe, N.M.) added three points and four assists
- GU set a new season-high for three-pointer made with 12
- Bison had 10 turnovers which are the lowest of the season
- This was the first time GU played Longwood since 1979 when the Lancers were a Division III program. Longwood won the game, 107-70. The Lancers went onto the NCAA Division III Final Four that season.
- Longwood is now 2-0 all-time vs. Gallaudet

Gallaudet enters Winter Break and will next play in the New Year. The Bison will next suit up on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2024, on the road against Apprentice School at 2 p.m. in Newport News, Va., in a non-conference game. Â
