ARLINGTON, Va. - The Gallaudet University women's basketball team made the short trip over to Northern Virginia on Sunday afternoon to play Marymount (Va.) University in the Converse Family Fieldhouse. The host Saints used a strong first half to pull away from the Bison and win, 75-45.
Gallaudet (2-3) started off strong and kept pace with Marymount (5-2) as the game was tied at eight apiece halfway through the first quarter. Senior forward
Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) picked up two quick fouls and had to go to the bench as the Saints closed out the quarter on a 13-3 run.Â
Perry would play well the remainder of the game as she didn't pick up another foul and scored 22 of her 26 points over the course of the final three quarters.Â
Marymount was lights out in the second quarter as it made 12 of 16 shots (75 percent), including four 3-pointers, as the Saints outscored the Bison, 30-13, and led 51-24 at intermission.
In the second half, GU played right with the Saints as the buff and blue netted 21 points to 24 by Marymount.
Perry led all-scorers with 26 points and added eight rebounds and two steals. First-year
Ashley Harlicker (Shenandoah, Texas) grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds and first-year
Cam Lexow (Abington, Pa.) chipped in seven points, two assists and two steals in the loss.Â
Marymount had three players in double figures led by Kyla Treadwell's 17-point performance.
