Gallaudet tumbles to Salisbury at home


WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University men's basketball team played Salisbury University close for a half here Wednesday night in the Field House on Padden Court before the visitors pulled away to win 82-59.

The Bison (0-6) opened the game close to the Sea Gulls (4-2) as the buff and blue took a 22-21 lead at the 8:43 mark. Salisbury answered with a 19-11 run to finish the first half up 40-32.

The Bison were not able to stay close in the second half as Salisbury held a 42-27 edge over the final 20 minutes as it cruised to the win. GU shot 27.8 percent from the field after the Bison posted a 40 percent shooting percentage in the first half. 

Junior Blessed Mbogo (Silver Spring, Md.) played back-to-back with a stellar performance by scoring 24 points, grabbed four rebounds and took three steals. Mbogo had an impressive performance at the free-throw line as he made 9 of 9 shots.

First-year Zachary Bippus (Cheverly, Md.) had a career-high 10 points as he swished two 3-pointers. Senior Rory Lewis (Frederick, Md.) added six points and five rebounds.

The Sea Gulls had two players record double-doubles in forwards Jordan Oates (20 points, 16 rebounds) and Reed Rebstock (19 points, 10 rebounds).

BISON TRACKS 
  • The Bison swished a season-high 18 free throws
  • Junior forward Enow Otto Jr, (Waldorf, Md.) added five points and dished out a team-high three assists
  • Both teams tied four times and the lead changed four times

Gallaudet will rest through fall break and regroup to host Shenandoah University (4-0) on Sunday, Nov. 26, at 3 p.m. in the Field House.
