Gallaudet falls to Purchase in the consolation game of the Hochberg Family Tip-Off Tournament

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Gallaudet University men's basketball came up short against Purchase College, 78-65, here Saturday in the consolation game of the Hochberg Family Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Vassar College.
 
Gallaudet (0-2) took a quick 5-2 lead several minutes before the Panthers used a 12-0 run to take a 14-5 advantage at the 14:27 mark in the first half. The Bison were able to pull to within three, 31-28, with five minutes left before the half but Purchase used another run to take a 41-34 lead into the intermission.
 
The Bison were outscored in the second half by six, 37-31. 
 
Junior forward Blessed Mbogo (Silver Spring, Md.) led Gallaudet with 20 points. He swished 4 of 7 shots from 3-point range and grabbed six rebounds. GU had two other players score in double digits in senior guard Rory Lewis (Frederick, Md.) and junior center Alex Antsiferov (North Charleston, S.C.) 14 and 13 points, respectively. Sophomore guard Bruce Brewer Jr. (Santa Fe, N.M.) passed out a career-high six assists.
 
The Panthers were led by forward Mahamadou Nimaga as he finished with a game-high 21 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and four steals.

  • Junior forward Brandon Chung (Kahului, Hawaii) and junior forward Enow Otto Jr. (Waldorf, Md.) added six points each.

UP NEXT
Gallaudet will make a short trip across the Bay Bridge to Chestertown, Md., to face Washington College on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m. in a non-conference game.
