First-half run too much for Bison to overcome on the road against Shoremen

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Gallaudet University men's basketball team lost to Washington College (Md.) College, 72-50, here Tuesday evening in a non-conference game at Finnegan Court. This was the home opener for the Shoremen (2-0).

Gallaudet (0-3) played a very close game against Washington College at the start with the score 17-21 at the 7:54 mark in the first half. However, the Shoremen went on a huge 19-0 run to take a comfortable 36-17 lead with just over two minutes left before the half. The Shoremen then scored a quick six points to take a 42-19 lead into the break.

The Bison did lead the second half scoring, 31-30, but the first half was too much for the Bison to overcome.

Junior forward Blessed Mbogo (Silver Spring, Md.) played a full 40 minutes and led Gallaudet with 17 points. He made 3 of 4 free throws and grabbed seven rebounds. GU had two players come off the bench and score the second and third highest point totals for the buff and blue. Senior guard Rory Lewis (Frederick, Md.) and sophomore guard Samer Sawan (Toronto, Ontario) scored nine and eight points, respectively.

The Shoremen were led by guard Paul Rodolf as he finished with 17 points, two assists and one rebound.
