WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University men's soccer team hung tough with Lancaster Bible College here Saturday afternoon at Hotchkiss Field in the first home United East Conference - Volt Division game for the Bison this season.
The two teams traded goals in the first half and the start of the second before the Chargers put the game away, late, to win 6-2.
Gallaudet (0-10, 0-3 Volt Division) got whistled for two costly penalties in the goalie box to start the second half and in the 77th minute as the Chargers were gifted two penalty kick opportunities that they capitalized on. The Bison tallied 14 fouls and six cards (one red) compared to only seven fouls and no cards for the Chargers in the 90-minute contest.
Sophomore forwardÂ
Hammad Khan (Little Rock, Arkansas) scored his first collegiate goal in the 40th minute to tie the game at 1-1. The score stood knotted at one at intermission.
In the second half, LBC scored a quick goal over a minute in on the first penalty kick.Â
GU responded in the 68th minute when senior defenderÂ
Jonathon Waterman (Redding, Calif.) scored an unassisted goal, his first of the season, to tie the game at 2-2.Â
Lancaster Bible (5-5-2, 2-1 Volt Division) scored its second penalty-kick goal in the 77th minute when Ben Nolt (two goals) scored past Bison goalie
Bode Aggas (West Henrietta, N.Y.). That began a four-goal run for the Chargers over the course of 10 minutes.
Aggas finished the game with four saves and starting goalie
Vershon Carter (Chicago, Ill.) made three saves.
