WASHINGTON - For the second time this season the Gallaudet University women's soccer goals in a game school record was broken. This time it was a different player as Gallaudet rolled to a 9-0 victory here Wednesday afternoon at Trinity Washington University.
Senior
Courtney Gentzke (Honeoye, N.Y.) scored at will against the Tigers as the forward netted seven first-half goals as the Bison led the evenly matched game, 8-0, at intermission. Gentzke scored the game's first goal just 48 seconds into the contest. Junior defender
Danielle Fisher (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored the game's second goal minutes later before Gentzke went on a tear. Gentzke had success off free kicks as three of the seven goals came off those free-kick opportunities. Two of Gentzke's goals were assisted by junior
Reza Mosher (Danville, Calif.).
Gentzke finished the game with seven goals off 10 shots (eight shots on goal) and added one assist for 15 points, a new school record for points in a game.
Gallaudet (4-5) held a 13-1 edge in shots over Trinity (1-9) in the first half.
In the second half, GU ran down the clock and only took one shot but it was worth it as first-year midfielder
Melany Benavides (Woodbridge, Va.) scored her first collegiate goal off an assist from Gentzke. The 70-minute game was called with 20 minutes left to play as the Bison celebrated their fourth win of the season.
The Bison sweep the season series with the Tigers, 2-0. GU won the previous meeting, 7-0, back on September 13.
Gentzke now has 11 goals on the season, all of which came against Trinity.
