WASHINGTON – Gallaudet University's Homecoming Weekend got into full swing on Friday night as alumni, family and friends converged at the Field House to watch the Bison women's volleyball team win a United East Conference – Volt Division match over Penn State Harrisburg.
Gallaudet (24-3, 4-0 United East) won in straight sets 25-13, 25-17, 25-11 to knock off Penn St. Harrisburg (8-11, 1-2 United East) and pick up an eighth straight regular-season conference win dating back to last season.
Prior to the start of the volleyball match the annual pep rally was held and got the crowded amped for the Bison game.
GU fed off the crowd's energy and rolled past the Lions as the senior group of
Natalie Clayberg (Pella, Iowa),
Adele Daniels (Frederick, Md.),
Emma Giuntoli (Austin, Texas) and
Leila Sicoli (Austin, Texas) made major contributions in the win on Senior Night.
Clayberg and Daniels had nine kills each and junior middle hitter
Anya Pothorski (Columbus, Ohio) slammed down a match-high 10 kills. Clayberg completed a double-double with 15 digs and two block assists. Pothorski led the team with four blocks (two solo). Junior setter
Ella Gamble (Cullowhee, N.C.) passed out 30 assists to go with five digs and three aces. Sicoli led the team with 17 digs while Giuntoli added an assist.
Penn St. Harrisburg was paced by Hannah DeGregory's seven kills and Tinirra Tubo's four block assists in the loss.
After the match, Bison head coach
Lynn Ray Boren shared his senior day comments for the four players with a video on the new video board in the gym.

Gallaudet will travel to Lancaster Bible College (13-8, 4-0 United East) on Wednesday, Oct. 25, for a 7 p.m. conference match. It will be a showdown between the top two teams in the Volt Division.
