LANCASTER, Pa. - There is now only one team atop the United East Conference - Volt Division women's volleyball standings and its Gallaudet University. The Bison broke a tie for first-place here Wednesday night with a straight sweep of Lancaster Bible College by the score of 30-28, 25-21, 25-19.
Gallaudet (25-3, 5-0 United East) now has the inside track on the No. 1 seed in the Volt Division for the postseason tournament. The Bison, who have won 10 straight matches, can complete a perfect conference regular-season record this Saturday when they play Penn St.-Berks.
Lancaster Bible (14-10, 5-1 United East) fought hard in the first set as it went extras where GU won 30-28. The Bison led 21-17 before the Chargers rallied and knotted the set at 24. LBC pushed the set to 25-26 and 27-28 and couldn't put away the mighty Bison. Gallaudet won the final two points on a LBC attack error and junior middle hitter
Anya Pothorski (Columbus, Ohio) slammed down a kill to end the first set in favor of the Bison, 30-28.Â
The second set was another close affair but GU broke open a 19-19 tie by scoring six of the next eight points to win by four, 25-21. GU had more room to breath in the third set and had things in order en route to the 25-19 set win to close out the highly anticipated United East Conference match between the top two teams in the Volt Division.

Natalie Clayberg (Pella, Iowa) finished with a double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs while junior
Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) tallied nine kills and six blocks (two solo). Senior outside hitte
r Adele Daniels (Frederick, Md.) tallied seven kills, six digs and two blocks. Pothorski added five kills and five block assists. Junior setter
Ella Gamble (Cullowhee, N.C.) passed out 27 assists and made five digs.Â
The Chargers were led by Jessica Fletcher (nine kills) and Leah Helman (12 digs) in the loss.
UP NEXT
GU returns home for a tri-meet this Saturday, Oct. 28, in the Field House. The Bison will start the day with their final regular-season conference match against Penn St.-Berks (5-14, 2-2 United East) at noon on Padden Court. GU will then play Roanoke College (13-8) at 4 p.m. Penn St.-Berks and Roanoke will face each other at 2 p.m.
