AURORA, N.Y. - It was a tale of two halves for the Gallaudet University men's basketball team here Friday night in a United East Conference game against Wells College in the Schwartz Athletic Center.
The two teams played to an even 31-31 first half and the Bison followed up the first 20 minutes of play with a second 31-point half over the course of the final 20 minutes of play. Wells, on the other hand, scored 49 points in the second half en route to a 80-62 victory.
Gallaudet (1-10, 0-2 United East) sent Wells (6-6, 1-1 United East) to the free-throw line 35 times in the second half as the Express made 23 shots (65.7 percent). That was the difference as both squads made four 3-pointers each and GU tallied 12 and Wells had 11 field goals made. The Bison added three points from the free-throw line in the second half.Â
Junior guard Rory Lewis (Frederick, Md.) paced the Bison with 11 points as he made three of Gallaudet's eight 3-pointers. Senior guard Corey Smith (Miami, Fla.) and sophomore forward Blessed Mbogo (Silver Spring, Md.) tallied 10 points each. Sophomore forward Brandon Chung (Kahului, Hawaii) finished with nine points and a team-high seven rebounds and two blocks.
Wells was led by Jalen Feliz's game-high 26 points as he made 5 of 6 shots from 3-point range while Ty McBride and Terrance Clayton-Murphy scored 15 and 12 points each. The Express played 16 players in the win.
