WASHINGTON – Junior forward
Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) recorded a triple-double here Friday evening in the Field House to lead the Gallaudet University women's basketball team to an 82-47 victory over Penn St.-Berks in a United East Conference game.
Perry finished the game with 16 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists (career-high) to notch her first career triple-double. Perry grabbed nine of the 11 boards on the defensive end of the court and added four steals and two blocks in 28 minutes played. Perry is the reigning United East Player of the Week, an award she has received four times this season, and also landed on the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week.
Perry's triple-double is the first for the Bison program since Jan. 21, 2019, when
Hannah Neild scored 23 points, 18 rebounds and 10 assists in a 98-52 home win over Penn College. Before Neild's triple-double,
Easter Fa'afiti recorded 17 points, 12 steals and 11 rebounds against CCNY on Dec. 12, 2009.
Gallaudet (5-13, 4-5 United East) outscored Penn St.-Berks (1-14, 1-8 United East) in every quarter and took a 50-27 lead into halftime.
GU had five players in double digits for points led by Perry and followed by sophomore center
Anya Pothorski (Indianapolis, Ind.) who finished with 15 points, six rebounds and one block. Junior guard
Rajena Guettler (Frederick, Md.) tallied 11 points and six boards while sophomore forward
Hannah Puent (Indianapolis, Ind.) scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds off the bench. Freshman guard
Olivia Brown (St. Augustine, Fla.) recorded 10 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals.
The Bison scored 50 of their 82 points in the paint and received 24 points from the bench. GU set several season-high marks in the win including points (82), field goals made (39) and assists (32). Gallaudet also outrebounded Penn St.-Berks by 16 (43-27) and scored 31 points off 23 Nittany Lion turnovers.
Penn St.-Berks was led by guard Hailey Miller, who finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, two assists and one steal. Fellow guard Kayley Mattis added eight points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Prior to the start of the game the Gallaudet women's basketball program recognized Perry for her 1,000th career point she scored back on Dec. 18, 2022, at Shenandoah University. After tonight's game, Perry officially moved into the Top 10 of Gallaudet women's basketball history with 1,149 career points. Perry passed
Joanne O'Neill (1980-81, 82-85) who amassed 1,140 career points.
UP NEXT
GU will travel next travel to Lancaster Bible College (10-6, 5-3 United East) on Tuesday, Jan. 31, for a 5 p.m. conference game. The two teams met in the Field House back on Jan. 14 where the Chargers escaped with a 65-56 win. Since then the Bison have gone 3-1 in conference play.
