Bison women’s basketball wins third straight

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Gallaudet University women's basketball team held onto a 73-70 victory here Tuesday night on the road against Lancaster Bible College in a United East Conference game in the Horst Athletic Center.

Gallaudet (6-13, 5-5 United East) has won three straight games and will head into a pivotal weekend with two key conference games taking place in the nation's capital.

Lancaster Bible (11-7, 6-4 United East) still sits in front of the Bison in the conference standings but the Bison have been on a roll and have the second longest win streak in the United East right now.

Junior forward Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) led the way with 17 points, five rebounds, five assists and one block. Junior guard Rajena Guettler (Frederick, Md.) was nearly perfect from the field going 8-for-9 to result in 16 points to go with five assists, four rebounds and two steals. Sophomore forward Hannah Puent (Indianapolis, Ind.) scored 14 points off the bench and grabbed a team best seven rebounds and recorded three assists and two blocks. The fourth and final Bison in double figures was sophomore center Anya Pothorski (Indianapolis, Ind.) with 11 points, six boards, three blocks and two assists.

The Bison finished the game with 37 rebounds, 20 assists and six blocks. GU shot 59.2 percent from the field and scored 36 points in the paint. The Bison bench contributed 20 points as the buff and blue led from start to finish. GU led 22-15 after the first quarter and took a 36-33 lead into halftime. 

Lancaster Bible was led by Sydney Heller's 24 points off the bench while Jenna Dombach and Irene Were scored 14 and 10 points, respectively. Were grabbed a game-high nine rebounds as the Chargers finished with 22 rebounds and shot 39.7 percent from the field.

Gallaudet returns home and will face Penn College (7-12, 6-4 United East) on Friday, Feb. 3, at 1:45 p.m. in the Capital One Arena in D.C. The Gallaudet Athletics Department has partnered with the Washington Wizards on its Deaf Appreciation Day this Friday when the Wizards play host to the Portland Trailblazers at 7 p.m. in Capital One Arena.

Fans planning to attend the Gallaudet-Penn College game will need to purchase a Wizards-Trailblazers ticket to be permitted into the arena regardless if they go to the night game. Fans will be asked to sit in Sections 110-112 (open seating). There will be no concessions sold during the Gallaudet-Penn College game.

The Bison sections for the Wizards game are as follows; 408, 409, 425, 426 for $30 per ticket.

When you click on the ticket link please fill out the amount according to how many tickets you want to order. Ex: Two $30 tickets would equal $60.

To enter the arena for the Gallaudet-Penn College please enter at the Gallery Place Entrance located at 7th and G St. (just past Clyde's and inside near the Regal movie theater box office). Gates will open at 1 p.m. for the 1:45 p.m. tip-off. The arena will be emptied immediately following the game to set up for the Wizards-Trailblazers game. Fans will be allowed back in at 5:15 p.m.

All individuals will pass through standard NBA security (metal detectors) before entering the arena for both games.
