Early lead doesn’t stand against Chargers

WASHINGTON – An earlier lead for Gallaudet University here Saturday was erased by Lancaster Bible College in a United East Conference game. The visitors outscored the Bison by 11 and seven points in the second and third quarters as the Chargers got past the Bison, 65-56, in the Field House.
 
Gallaudet (2-12, 1-4 United East) led 17-5 nine minutes into the game but back-to-back 3-pointers helped to jump start the Chargers as they headed into the second quarter down 17-11.
 
Lancaster Bible (9-3, 4-0 United East) scored the first seven points in the second frame and later increased its lead to five, 26-21, as the two teams went into intermission.
 
The Chargers kept the Bison at a distance in the third quarter and closed things out on a 7-2 run to take a 46-34 lead into the final 10 minutes of play.
 
Gallaudet outscored LBC, 22-19, in the fourth quarter as the Bison scored the most points in a quarter for the game and the Chargers made 10 of their 19 points from the free-throw line.
 
Junior forward Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) scored a game-high 26 points and completed the double-double with a game best 10 rebounds. Perry added five assists, three blocks and two steals while she nursed four personal fouls in 31 minutes played.
 
Sophomore forward Hannah Puent (Indianapolis, Ind.) added seven points and matched Perry with 10 rebounds and three blocks. Sophomore center Anya Pothorski (Indianapolis, Ind.) added eight points and four rebounds off the bench while freshman guard Olivia Brown (St. Augustine, Fla.) added six points and six boards.
 
LBC had four players in double figures led by guard Jenna Dombach (13 points) followed by forwards Irene Were and Adalyn Steiner, who scored 11 points each. Guard Mikayla Via added 10 points in the win.
 
UP NEXT

Gallaudet is on the road this week in Pennsylvania as the Bison will play a trio of conference games before its next home game in the Field House. The Bison will begin the trip on Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 5 p.m. at Penn St.-Abington (4-8, 2-4 United East).
