Box Score JENKINTOWN, Pa. - The Gallaudet University baseball team dropped a 22-9 decision to Penn St.-Abington here Friday evening in a United East Conference game. The Bison (5-30, 1-18 United East) led early and held a 9-7 lead as the teams went into the seven inning before the Nittany Lions (29-9, 15-4 United East) scored 15 times to take a 13-run lead.
Gallaudet did not hesitate to grab a three-run lead against Penn St. Abington in the first inning. Senior Winston Lane III (Brooklyn Center, Minn.) and senior Bryan Ramos-Navarro (Springfield, Mass.) tallied RBI singles to help GU take the early 3-0 lead.
The Bison scored a run or more in the six innings but the fifth.
Lane led the Bison with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate with three RBI while juniors Frank Diaz (Far Rockaway, N.Y.) and Austin Sliva-Wynne (Richmond, Texas) finished with identical 2-for-5 lines with three runs scored. Sophomore Salvador Diaz (Norwalk, Calif.) drove in two runs on two hits.
Freshman Johnathan Guerrero (Indio, Calif.) started the game on the hill as he pitched five innings and struck out two. Junior Ben Meyer (Monroe, Mich.) took the loss on the mound as he pitched 1.1 innings and struck out one. Gallaudet used six total pitchers in the game.
