Box Score 2 READING, Pa. - Gallaudet University completed its three-game baseball series Saturday at Penn St.-Berks in a United East Conference doubleheader as the host Nittany Lions (15-15, 8-10 United East) won 16-3 and 9-6 over the Bison (5-29, 1-17 United East).
Game 1: Penn St.-Berks 16, Gallaudet 3
The Nittany Lions scored seven runs in the first and nine in the second to blow open the first game over the Bison. Gallaudet added one run in the fifth and two runs in the seventh to cut the Penn St.-Berks lead to 13.
GU got on the scoreboard when a walk was issued to junior Austin Sliva-Wynne (Richmond, Texas) with the bases loaded in the fifth to plate junior Ben Meyer (Monroe, Mich.) from third base. The Bison were poised to score more but the next batter grounded into a double play to end the threat.
In the seventh, two Penn St.-Berks errors aided the Bison as they scored twice on two hits. Senior Winston Lane III (Brooklyn Center, Minn.) singled up the middle to plate junior Frank Diaz (Far Rockaway, N.Y.) for Gallaudet's third and final run.
Junior Darren Drolsbaugh (Lansdale, Pa.) led the Bison at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance from the lead-off spot. GU received a hit from six different batters. On the mound, Drolsbaugh (2-6) took the loss while Meyer pitched five innings and allowed one run on two hits, walked two and struck out one.
Penn St.-Berks starting pitcher Alex Laudenslager (5-3) threw a complete games and allowed three runs (one earned) on eight hits, walked three and struck out three. The Nittany Lions slammed two home runs and had six batters with two or more hits.
Game 2: Penn St.-Berks 9, Gallaudet 6
In the second game, GU got off to a better start and led 2-0 after the first inning and took a 3-0 lead into the fourth inning when the Nittany Lions scored two runs and tacked on another two in the sixth and one run in the seventh as the host held a 5-3 advantage. The Bison rallied and scored three times in the top of the eighth to take a 6-5 lead but Penn St.-Berks responded with four runs in the bottom of the eighth to regain the lead for good.
Drolsbaugh led the way for the Bison at the plate (4-for-5) as he scored three times and hit one of GU's two doubles. Frank Diaz had the other double as he finished the game 2-for-4, two runs and two RBI. Sophomore Salvador Diaz (Norwalk, Calif.) and freshman Johnathan Guerrero (Indio, Calif.) both finished with two hits and one and two RBI, respectively.
Sliva-Wynne threw seven strong innings where he surrendered five runs (three earned) on nine hits, walked three and struck out eight. Sophomore Joshua Dugan (San Antonio, Texas) took the loss as he allowed three of the four runs in the eighth to the Nittany Lions.
Penn St.-Berks starter Ben Berkel threw six innings and allowed three runs on six hits, walked none and struck out three. Reliever Sam Perrone (2-0) got the win with a scoreless third of a inning and Joe Gramignano picked up his second save of the season with a scoreless ninth. The Nittany Lions tallied two more home runs in the win.

GU will complete the 2022 season next weekend on the road at Penn St.-Abington (24-9, 12-4 United East) for a three-game conference series that begins on Friday, April 29, at 3 p.m.
