Box Score 2 LANCASTER, Pa. - On Saturday afternoon, the Gallaudet University baseball team dropped a United East Conference doubleheader to Lancaster Bible College. The Bison (5-18, 1-7 United East) lost the first game, 15-6, and the second game, 9-7, to the first-place Chargers (13-10, 8-1 United East).
Game 1: Lancaster Bible 15, Gallaudet 6 (F/7)
Gallaudet struck first against Lancaster Bible in the top of the first inning when junior Darren Drolsbaugh (Landsdale, Pa.) led off with a single and stole his way around the bases. Drolsbaugh used his speed to swipe second and third and eventually scored on a passed ball as the Bison led 1-0.
The Chargers answered with three runs on two hits and one Bison error in the bottom of the first to take the lead. It would be a lead LBC would hold for the remainder of the game as GU battled back and pulled to within a run, 3-2 in the third, and two runs, 7-5 in the fourth.
GU's three-run fourth inning was highlighted by back-to-back RBI hits from sophomore Shea Sliva-Wynne (Richmond, Texas) and freshman Jaylen Johnson (Dublin, Calif.). Drolsbaugh drove in Johnson with a RBI single to load the bases.
Gallaudet scored its sixth and final run in the top of the fifth with a sacrifice fly by sophomore Joshua Dugan (San Antonio, Texas) to score junior Austin Sliva-Wynne (Richmond, Texas), who reached bases after getting hit by the pitch.
Dugan (0-2) took the loss on the mound as he pitched three innings and struck out one.
Game 2: Lancaster Bible 9, Gallaudet 7
Gallaudet held the lead several times in the second game, a nine-inning affair, as the Bison hung tough with the top team in the United East Conference.
Gallaudet rallied to score four times in the top of the seventh to take a 7-6 lead into the home stretch of the game. Austin Sliva-Wynne cleared the bases with a three-run double down the left-field line with two outs to knot the game at six apiece. Senior Winston Lane III (Brooklyn Center, Minn.) followed with a RBI single through the left-side of the infield to give GU its second lead of the game.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Bison issued three walks and hit two batters as the Chargers scored twice to regain the lead.
GU was able to load the bases in the top of the eighth inning with two outs as LBC walked two Bison batters and hit one before the rally ended with a strikeout.
LBC added an insurance run in the bottom half of the eighth with a two-out single through the right-side of the infield.
Chargers closer Tyler Cunningham walked the first Bison batter in the ninth before he retired the side to pick-up his first save and end the game.
Gallaudet took a 2-1 lead in the second inning as the Bison scored twice on one hit and two LBC errors. Dugan led off the second with a double to left field and later scored on a double steal. Shea Sliva-Wynne, who reached on an error, scored on an error as the buff and blue led early.
Lancaster Bible College shortstop Blake Greenly smashed two home runs in his first two at-bats, in the first and second innings, as the Chargers regained the advantage up 3-2.
