Box Score WASHINGTON - Gallaudet University and Penn College of Technology completed its delayed three-game series here Tuesday afternoon at Hoy Field as the Wildcats bused down to the nation's capital for one nine-inning game. The visitors broke open a close 5-2 game with six runs over the final two innings en route to a 11-3 victory.
Gallaudet (5-23, 1-11 United East) scored the game's first run in the bottom of the first and tacked on another run in the second and ninth innings. Penn College (15-10, 9-3 United East) scored three times in the second and pushed across one run in the fourth and sixth innings before the Wildcats scored twice in the eighth and four times in the ninth. The Wildcats scored five of their 11 runs on passed balls as runners scampered home from third base. GU catchers had 10 combined passed balls, the Bison made three errors in the field while GU pitchers hit eight batters and walked nine in the loss.
The Bison took advantage of the four Wildcat errors as a Penn College miscue in the bottom of the first allowed junior Frank Diaz (Far Rockaway, N.Y.) to score from third base after he singled, stole second and moved up on a passed ball. Senior Winston Lane III (Brooklyn Center, Minn.) reached on a third baseman error as Diaz scored.
In the second, junior Darren Drolsbaugh (Lansdale, Pa.) hit a RBI single to center field to plate freshman Jaylen Johnson (Fremont, Calif.), who singled to right and moved up on a ground out.
Gallaudet's third run came in the bottom of the ninth when Lane had an infield hit as junior Austin Sliva-Wynne (Richmond, Texas) scored from third base.
The Bison left the bases loaded twice and stranded two or more runners on base in five of the nine innings. Sophomore Mitchell Dolinar (Las Vegas, Nev.) led the Bison with two hits as GU had eight different batters record one hit.
Penn College starting pitcher Brock Moyer only lasted into the third inning before he gave way to Gabe Reptsik (1-1), who pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless relief to pick up the win. At the plate, left fielder Kolten Smith went 2-for-4 at the dish with five RBI and three runs scored. Smith had a two-run triple in the second and a three-run home run in the ninth.
Sophomore Shea Sliva-Wynne (Richmond, Texas) took the loss as he allowed four runs (two earned) on three hits, four walks and struck out four.
