Box Score AUBURNDALE, Fla. - It was a late-inning rally for Gallaudet University here Wednesday against SUNY Canton at the Lake Myrtle Sports Park. The Bison trailed 7-0 after six and a half innings before the Bison scored eight times over the next three innings. In the end, GU came up one run short and lost 9-8 to the Roos.
Gallaudet (4-11) scored twice in the bottom of the seventh on back-to-back RBI singles from juniors Darren Drolsbaugh (Lansdale, Pa.) and Frank Diaz (Far Rockaway, N.Y.) with one out. GU left the bases loaded as the Roos (2-8) got out of the jam.
SUNY Canton added two runs in the top of the eighth to take a 9-2 lead.
GU scored three times in the eighth and ninth innings.
Freshman outfielder Jaylen Johnson (Dublin, Calif.) blasted his third home run of the season with a three-run shot in the bottom of the eighth. This was Johnson's second straight game with a home run.
In the bottom of the ninth, GU pushed across three more runs to get within a run of the Roos. A passed ball allowed Gallaudet to score its first run of the frame. After the Bison recorded their second out, sophomore Joshua Dugan (San Antonio, Texas) stepped to the plate and delivered a two-run single to bring home sophomore Salvador Diaz (Norwalk, Calif.) and Shea Sliva-Wynne (Richmond, Texas).
Dugan (0-1) started on the mound for the Bison and threw five innings before he gave way to freshman Robert Quigley (Mountain View, Calif.).
SUNY Canton starting pitcher Zach Miner (1-1) picked up the win after he threw seven innings and allowed two runs on six hits, walked six and struck out seven.

Gallaudet returns home and will begin United East Conference play this weekend at Hoy Field. The Bison will play host to Wells College on Friday, March 18, at 3 p.m.
