Box Score AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Gallaudet University baseball team returned to the Lake Myrtle Sports Park on Tuesday afternoon to face Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) in a non-conference game at the main field in the RussMatt Invitational. The Bison dropped a 15-9 decision in nine innings to the Trailblazers.
Gallaudet (4-10) hung close with the Trailblazers (3-6) as the visiting Bison trailed 3-2 after two innings and later scored a combined five runs between the fifth and sixth innings. The Bison plated three runs in the sixth to cut the MCLA lead down to 9-7. The Trailblazers responded with four runs in the bottom half and tacked on single runs in the seventh and eighth innings. GU added two runs in the ninth but fell short to the Trailblazers, 15-9.
Freshman Jaylen Johnson (Dublin, Calif.) led the Bison at the plate as he slammed his second home run of the season and smacked a triple as he scored twice and tallied two RBI. Junior Austin Sliva-Wynne (Richmond, Texas) had a two-run home run in the three-run sixth inning. Austin's brother Shea Sliva-Wynne (Richmond, Texas) added two hits (one triple), two RBI and one run scored. Junior Frank Diaz (Far Rockaway, N.Y.) led the Bison with three hits as he went 3-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored and one RBI.
Senior Darren Drolsbaugh (Lansdale, Pa.) started on the mound for the Bison and took the loss. MCLA starting pitcher James Sneyd (1-0) picked up the win while Nate Morse recorded the four-inning save.
