Box Score 2 AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Gallaudet University baseball team got back on the diamond here Sunday on a cool but sunny day at the Lake Myrtle Sports Park. The Bison split a non-conference doubleheader with University of Maine at Presque Isle. The Owls took the first game, 3-2, before GU rallied in the eighth inning to win 7-6 in walk-off fashion.
Game 1: UMPI 3, Gallaudet 2
UMPI struck early in the first game as the Owls scored a run in the bottom of the first. Joey Lippo led things off with a triple and then scored on a RBI single by Timothy Burn. GU answered in the top of the second when sophomore Bryan Ramos-Navarro (Springfield, Mass.) doubled home junior Austin Sliva-Wynne (Richmond, Texas). The Owls (1-2) tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the second.
The lead remained 3-1 through five innings. Gallaudet scored a second run in the top of the sixth on Sliva-Wynne sacrifice fly to plate junior shortstop Darren Drolsbaugh (Lansdale, Pa.).
Senior Frank Diaz (Far Rockaway, N.Y.) pitched a complete game for the Bison (3-9) as he allowed three runs (two earned) on 11 hits and one walk.
Steed Outler (1-1) picked up the win for the Owls as he threw a complete game where he surrendered two runs (one earned) on four hits, no walks and struck out nine.
Game 2: Gallaudet 7, UMPI 6 (F/8)
In the second game, UMPI served as the visiting team and scored four quick runs in the first inning before the Bison regrouped and scored in three straight innings to take a 6-4 lead. The Owls added runs in the fifth and seventh innings to force extra innings.
In the eighth, sophomore Joshua Dugan (San Antonio, Texas) singled to lead things off. Senior Winston Lane III (Brooklyn Center, Minn.) followed with a single. After a fly out, sophomore Shea Sliva-Wynne (Richmond, Texas) stepped up and delivered a RBI double to end the game.
Gallaudet improves to 4-9 on the season while the Owls drop to 1-3.
Drolsbaugh picked up the win as he threw 2.1 innings of relief of starting pitcher Johnathan Guerrero (Indio, Calif.).
Bailey Corely (0-1) took the loss for the Owls.
