Box Score WASHINGTON - The Bison Baseball Classic wrapped up here Sunday at Hoy Field with Muhlenberg College earning the three-day tournament trophy after the Mules defeated Gallaudet University, 10-4, to wrap up a perfect 3-0 weekend.
Gallaudet (1-6) served as the visiting team for the game against the Mules (3-0), who put up three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
The Bison got on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning when senior Winston Lane III (Brooklyn Center, Minn.) singled home freshman Jaylen Johnson (Dublin, Calif.), who led off the inning with an infield hit.
Muhlenberg added runs in the bottom of the third, fifth and sixth innings to increase its lead to 6-1. The Mules added two runs in the seventh and eighth innings while Gallaudet plated two runs in the top of the eighth and one run in the ninth.
The Mules held the Bison scoreless for four innings until the eighth inning when freshman Salvador Diaz (Norwalk, Calif.) started the frame with a double to left-center field. Junior Austin Sliva-Wynne (Richmond, Texas) singled to center field to put runners at the corners. Senior Frank Diaz (Far Rockaway, N.Y.) whacked a two-run double down the right-field line to plate Salvador Diaz and Sliva-Wynne. GU's next batter walked with no outs before the Mules got out of the inning with three straight strikeouts.
Frank Diaz picked up a third RBI in the ninth on a ground out with the bases loaded but the Bison couldn't push across any more runners as Muhlenberg ended the game with a fly out.
Austin Sliva-Wynne (0-2) took the loss on the mound as he allowed seven runs (six earned) on nine hits, two walks and struck out six.
Muhlenberg starting pitcher Jayden Barroqueiro (1-0) picked up the win as he threw six innings where he allowed one unearned run on five hits, no walks and struck out eight.
