Gallaudet's Cassidy Perry nets 1,000th career point at Shenandoah

WINCHESTER, Va. - Gallaudet University women's basketball history was made here Sunday afternoon in the James R. Wilkins Jr. Athletics & Events Center on the campus of Shenandoah University when junior forward Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) joined the 1,000-point club.

Perry made a jumper in the lane at the 7:24 mark in the fourth quarter to give her 22 points in the game and 1,000 career points in three seasons played for the buff and blue. The Bison bench erupted in celebration as members jumped up and down while Perry clenched her fists and yelled in excitement as GU went back on defense. Perry didn't skip a beat as she went back to blocking shots before the game was stopped to recognize Perry for the career achievement.

Perry finished with a game-high 24 points, eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block. Perry is the 14th member of the 1,000-point club in Gallaudet women's basketball history.

Gallaudet (1-9) dropped the non-conference game to Shenandoah (8-2) as the host Hornets ran away with an 87-45 victory.

Shenandoah doubled up Gallaudet in the first quarter, 28-14, and took a 44-24 lead into halftime.

GU scored 34 of its 45 points in the paint. Sophomore center Anya Pothorski (Indianapolis, Ind.) added seven points and five boards while sophomore forward Hannah Puent (Indianapolis, Ind.) and freshman guard Bree Goldstein (Riverside, Calif.) scored six each. The six points scored for Goldstein ties a career-high mark. Puent grabbed a team-high nine rebounds in the loss.

The Hornets had four players in double figures led by Terese Greene with a team best 19 points, five rebounds, three steals, one block and one assist.
