SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The 2022-23 season got underway for the Gallaudet University women's basketball team here Saturday night in the 2022 National Beef Tip-Off Tournament opening game against Susquehanna University. The host River Hawks glided to. 69-27 victory over the Bison in the O.W. Houts Gymnasium.
Gallaudet (0-1) will play in Sunday's consolation game against Cabrini University (1-2), who lost to Misercordia University 67-59.
GU was paced by sophomore forward Anya Pothorski (Indianapolis, Ind.) who scored nine points, with five coming from the free-throw line, and made a game-high four blocks. Sophomore forward Hannah Puent (Indianapolis, Ind.) led all Bison with eight rebounds (six defensive boards). Three different Bison had five rebounds including junior Malia Zornoza (Riverside, Calif.), sophomore Jewel Rocha (Austin, Texas) and freshman Olivia Brown (St. Augustine, Fla.). Zornoza poured in six points, made a team-high four steals and passed out two assists in the loss.
Susquehanna had three players in double digits and played 15 players as the River Hawks led 37-7 at the half.
