Box Score WASHINGTON - On a snowy Friday evening, the Gallaudet University men's basketball team eked out a 68-65 victory over Penn College of Technology in a United East Conference game.
The Bison (2-14, 2-7 United East) ran ahead of the Wildcats (4-12, 4-5 United East) when they broke open a 29-26 lead with a 11-1 run to take a 40-27 advantage with 3:14 left in the first half. GU waltzed into intermission with a 42-31 lead.
GU led for the majority of the second half before Penn College tied the game at 63-63 with 3:03 left in regulation. Sophomore forward Lance Wood (Fishers, Ind.) helped the Bison down the stretch with four clutch free throws to help the Bison regain the lead and hold onto a the three-point win.
Wood tallied a career-high 23 points as he made 7 of 11 shots from the field and went 9-for-11 from the free-throw line. Wood completed the double-double with a game-high 13 rebounds and two steals.
Two other Bison were in double figures in freshman guard Shannon Cotto (Lakewood, Ohio) and sophomore guard Rory Lewis (Frederick, Md.) who scored 13 and 12 points, respectively. Cotto passed out a game-high seven assists and ripped down five boards and made three steals. Lewis grabbed six rebounds, made three steals and passed out three assists.
Freshman guard Gavin Barrett led the Wildcats with 15 points, five rebounds and one assist off the bench while teammate Corey Blackwell scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the loss.
