Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Gallaudet University football team spoiled homecoming for Greensboro College here Saturday afternoon as the Bison marched up-and-down Pride Field en route to a 49-42 victory.
Gallaudet (2-0) accumulated 627 yards of total offense and scored seven touchdowns in the win over Greensboro (0-3).
Senior quarterback Timel Benton (Columbia, S.C.) completed 6 of 13 passes for 265 yards and two touchdowns, including an 82-yard touchdown pass to Marc Wallace Jr. (Panama City Beach, Fla.) in the second quarter as GU led 21-7.
Gallaudet scored a fourth touchdown right before halftime when D'Mitri Lofton (Gaithersburg, Md.) scored from 10 yards out as the Bison led 28-7 at the break.
In the second half, Greensboro quarterback David Loughry II (24-for-44, 407 yards, five touchdowns) started to chip away at the Gallaudet lead with two scores.
The Bison responded with two consecutive scores which included a 15-yard run from Joseph Mendis (Brook Park, Ohio) at the 4:07 mark in the third quarter. A few moments later, Benton connected on another long touchdown pass play with a 72-yard completion to Lofton as GU went back up by three scores, 42-21.
The Pride outscored the Bison, 21-7, in the fourth quarter as Loughry threw his fourth and fifth touchdowns of the game but it was Preston Garrett's (Georgetown, Texas) 16-yard run with 9:20 left in regulation that propelled Gallaudet to victory.
Freshman Mikka Harvey (Prince Frederick, Md.) led the Gallaudet rushing attack with six carries for 100 yards and one score. The Bison finished with 362 yards on the ground. The Bison had two 100-yard receivers in Wallace (two catches for 119 yards) and Lofton (two catches for 102 yards).
Freshman linebacker Jacob Hartman (Petersburg, W.Va.) and sophomore linebacker Stefan Anderson (Faribault, Minn.) led the Bison defense with eight tackles each.
