Box Score 2 ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team concluded the second day of the Buttermaker Tournament hosted by Muhlenberg College here Saturday afternoon. The Bison lost their morning match against University of Pittsburgh at Bradford in four sets, 3-1 (16-25, 25-20, 12-25, 22-25). In the afternoon match, Gallaudet lost against Neumann University, 3-1. (28-26, 20-25, 22-25, 26-28)
Gallaudet dropped the first set (16-25) against the Bradford Panthers before it tied things at 1-1 after a 25-20 second set win. The Panthers then took over the match to beat the Bison 12-25 and 22-25.
GU started strong against Neumann to win the first set, 28-26, before the Knights responded back to take the win in the next three sets (20-25, 22-25, 26-28). Sophomore setter Emma Giuntoli (Austin, Texas) passed out 46 assists and 10 digs, while senior outside hitter Karita Lewis (Frederick, Md.) came through with 21 kills.
The fourth set was closer (26-28) as GU fought hard, but the Knights stormed back to defeat the Bison, 3-1.
Senior Elina Rubinshteyn (Austin, Texas.) was selected for the all-tournament team.
BISON TRACKS
- This was Gallaudet's fourth appearance against Neumann since 2009 and the first since 2017
- The Bison had a total of 97 kills throughout the two matches
- GU served nine service aces on Saturday
