Box Score WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University baseball team dropped a non-conference contest against Christopher Newport University here Sunday at Hoy Field, 18-5.
The Bison (4-8) were held scoreless over the first six innings of play, while the Captains (9-4) plated 15 runs to put the game out of reach.
Gallaudet scored its first run in the seventh inning off a solo home run from senior Winston Lane III (Brooklyn Center, Minn.) over the left field fence. The Bison's best inning came in the eighth frame when they scored four runs. Sophomore Josh Dugan (San Antonio, Texas) started the rally with a RBI single to left field. Lane brought in the next run on a sacrifice fly, followed by a RBI single to right center by senior Austin Altman (Irvine, Calif.). Freshman Elijah Solomon (Flushing, N.Y.) capped off the run as he knocked in the fourth run with a single through the left side.
Dugan finished the day with two hits, a RBI and one run scored. Lane posted one hit and two RBI. Gallaudet pitched seven different players and ended with four total strikeouts. The Captains had five different players with two hits. Alec Reilly had a game-high five RBI for Christopher Newport.
