Bison battered by Chargers in 29-5 loss

Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. - Gallaudet University trailed Lancaster Bible College here Saturday by seven runs, 12-5, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) baseball game as the teams went in the bottom of the sixth inning. The host Chargers scored 17 unanswered runs the next three innings en route to a 29-5 victory.

Gallaudet (7-16, 0-4 NEAC) scored one run in the fourth and four runs in the sixth. Freshman Bryan Ramos-Navarro (Springfield, Mass.) clubbed a two-run home run, his first of his career, in the four-run sixth. Junior Austin Altman (Irvine, Calif.) had a two-run single in the sixth.

Lancaster Bible (4-9, 1-3 NEAC) smashed eight home runs as three players had two or more. Jacob Schenck (4-for-7, four runs, six RBI) led the way with three homers including a grand slam in the 12-run eighth.

The Chargers tallied 24 hits with a third of them accounting for home runs. The 24 hits are the most GU has given up since Penn St.-Harrisburg tallied 25 in a 24-1 win on April 14, 2017. That date is not memorable in Gallaudet baseball history as the Bison lost 28-2 to Penn St.-Altoona on April 14, 2010, which is the last time Gallaudet lost by 24 or more runs. The 29 runs surrendered are the most since St. Mary's (Md.) College scored 29 off GU on April 12, 2008.

Junior Robersy Delgado (Tampa, Fla.) took the loss as he allowed 13 runs (12 earned) on 13 hits (six home runs), two walks and one strikeout in six innings worked.

LBC starting pitcher Dan Zimmerman (2-3) picked up the win as he allowed five runs (one earned) off four hits, four walks and struck out eight.

GU senior Cameron Upton (Vicksburg, Miss.) was the only Bison with two hits (one double) and two runs scored.
