Bison take two NEAC matches at Keuka as win streak grows

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. - Gallaudet University's win streak continues as the Bison added two more victories here Saturday over North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) foes. The Bison dispatched Wells College, 3-1, before holding off Keuka College, 3-2.

Gallaudet (10-20, 6-2 NEAC), who has won five straight matches, moves into a tie for second place in the NEAC standings heading into the final two weeks of league play.

GU won the first two sets (27-25, 25-19) against Wells (7-18, 4-3 NEAC) and almost closed out the Express in three sets before they won, 25-27, to force a fourth set. In the fourth set, Gallaudet rolled with a 25-12 set win.

Junior outside hitter Karita Lewis (Frederick, Md.) posted a second straight 25-kill game to go with 16 digs and four blocks (one solo). Lewis posted an identical double-double (25 kills, 16 digs) two days ago against Hood College. Freshman Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) tallied 11 kills, four blocks and four assists. Freshman setter Demi Bingham (Jefferson, Md.) passed out 47 assists. Freshman Sunita Schmidjorg (Austin, Texas) served up six aces in the win.

In the afternoon match with Keuka, the Bison dropped the first set 24-26 before they took the next two sets; 25-16 and 25-11. The Wolves (5-16, 2-6 NEAC) rallied to take the fourth set, 17-25, to force a fifth and decisive set. The two teams went back-and-forth before the Bison squeaked out the 15-12 win.

Lewis (three aces) tallied 21 kills while freshman Malia Zornoza (Pleasanton, Calif.) added eight kills and Schmidjorg (four aces) chipped in seven kills. Bingham had 38 assists while two different Bison made 11 digs.

UP NEXT
GU returns home to host two NEAC foes in its final home regular-season matches in the Field House. The Bison will go up against Cazenovia College (3-19, 1-7 NEAC) and Morrisville State College (16-6, 8-0 NEAC) on Friday, Oct. 25, at 2 and 4 p.m., respectively.
