Bison strike first against Lancaster Bible

WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University baseball team dropped a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) doubleheader to Lancaster Bible College at Hoy Field on Thursday.

The game was originally scheduled to be played in Lancaster, Pa., but was moved to the nation's capital due to unplayable fields. The Bison served as the away team for both games. Lancaster Bible (12-9, 2-3 NEAC) won the first game, 7-1, and the second game, 9-2, over the Bison (3-23-1, 0-6 NEAC).

Game 1: Lancaster Bible 7, Gallaudet 1
The two teams traded runs in the first inning before Lancaster Bible scored three times in the bottom of the third and the fourth innings. The Chargers had three batters drive in two runs each while Landon Mowry (2-0) picked up the win in relief while Tyler Greenly earned his first save of the season.

Junior Ryan Gilbert (Mount Dora, Fla.) singled to right field in the top of the first inning to score fellow junior Cameron Upton (Vicksburg, Miss.) as the Bison led 1-0 early.

Lancaster Bible went on to score seven unanswered runs during the seven-inning game.

Senior Dylan Hayes (Endicott, N.Y.) took the loss as he allowed all seven runs (six earned) on nine hits and four walks. Freshman Darren Drolsbaugh (Lansdale, Pa.) threw three scoreless innings of relief in the loss.

Game 2: Lancaster Bible 9, Gallaudet 2
Gallaudet scored the game's first run in the top of the first inning but Lancaster Bible responded with five runs in the bottom half of the frame. The Chargers led 5-2 and later 6-2 for the majority of the game before the Chargers scored three times in the bottom of the eighth inning, including an inside-the-park home run.

Senior Kyle Gumm (Dallas, Texas) scored on a wild pitch in the first inning and freshman Yebi Areola (Nashville, Tenn.) singled home Hayes in the second inning to mark GU's two runs.

Sophomore Frank Diaz (Far Rockaway, N.Y.) took the loss as he allowed eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits, seven walks and two strikeouts.
