Bison fall to Washington College

WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University baseball team dropped a 10-2 decision to Washington College here Saturday at Hoy Field in a non-conference game.

Gallaudet (3-14-1) fell behind early as Washington (15-3) jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings as the Shoremen scored three times in the second and fourth innings. Washington led 9-0 before the Bison scored their first run in the bottom of the sixth. The two teams tacked on one additional run each in the final two innings.

Senior first baseman Justin Strong (Charlotte, N.C.) singled home junior Ryan Gilbert (Mount Dora, Fla.) in the sixth as Strong led the Bison offense with three singles.

Freshman starting pitcher Ethan Denson (Huffman, Texas) took the loss as he allowed nine runs (six earned) on 13 hits in 5.2 innings where he walked four and struck out one. GU used a trio of relievers out of the bullpen to close out the game.

Washington starting pitcher P.J. Mikulus (4-0) threw seven strong innings as he only allowed one unearned run on six hits, walked one and struck out four. Shoremen first baseman Evan Hirschbaum led the visitors with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate with three RBI and one run.

Gallaudet will play host to No. 9 Frostburg State University (11-3) tomorrow (Sunday, March 25) at 2 p.m. The game was originally scheduled to be played in Frostburg, Md., but was moved to the nation's capital due to snow. The Bobcats lost 2-0 at Marymount on Saturday and have lost two straight entering their game with the Bison.
