Bison dispatch Patriots in largest home win of the season

WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University's women's basketball team collected a 91-47 win against University of Valley Forge in a non-conference game here Saturday in the Field House on Padden Court.

Gallaudet (10-13) came out of the gates on fire and played at a high level as its energy levels dictated the tempo of the game against Valley Forge (10-8). GU led from start-to-finish and scored over 21 points in every quarter. The Bison took a 46-18 lead into halftime and outscored the Patriots in the second half, 45-29.

Junior guard/forward Hannah Neild  (Litchfield, N.H.) finished with a game-high 31 points as she made 12 of 20 shots from the field and went 4-for-7 from three-point range. She added nine assists, six steals, three blocks and three rebounds. Freshman guard Emelia Beldon (Frederick, Md.) matched Neild with a season-high nine assists as she ripped down eight boards and made four steals.

Junior guard Sabina Shysh (Tucson, Ariz.) spun heads and sunk shots as she finished with a career-high 29 points, seven assists, five rebounds and five steals. Senior forward Kelsey Hudson (Blissfield, Mich.) recorded the only double-double of the game with 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. 

The energy continued when senior forward Lawjen Ashmore (Fairbanks, Alaska) entered off the bench and played aggressive defense. Ashmore finished the game with nine rebounds, four steals and six points.

Valley Forge was led by Bailey Mayforth's 12 points, three rebounds and three steals. Carlee Conrad contributed a team-high five rebounds, five assists, three steals and four points in the loss.

  • Junior forward Kelli Barnes (Cliffside, N.C.) grabbed five rebounds and made two blocks

Gallaudet travels to Chambersburg, Pa., in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game against Wilson College (9-13, 4-9 NEAC) Wednesday, Feb. 14, at 8 p.m. Wilson defeated Gallaudet (7-7 NEAC) in the first meeting on January 17 by four points, 61-57.
