Bison swept at home by Marymount

WASHINGTON - A slow start by Gallaudet University set the tone in Wednesday night's women's volleyball match against Marymount (Va.) University as the Bison were swept in straight sets 12-25, 22-25, 19-25 in the Field House on Padden Court.

Gallaudet (5-8) has now lost three straight matches and are now 0-2 this season at home.

Marymount (5-6) made 15 of 32 kills attempts with only two errors for a .406 kill percentage while Gallaudet struggled going 10-for-30 with five errors (.167 percentage) in the first set.

GU bounced back in the second set and led late in the match, 19-17, before Marymount tied things up at 20, 21 and 22 all before scoring the final three points. A Bison service error, a Bison blocking error and a Saints kill were the final three points in the 22-25 second set.

Marymount never trailed in the third and decisive set. The Saints were led by Miranda Cooksey (nine kills, five block assists) and Myah Cordrey (nine kills, four block assists) while Maggie Viniard passed out 19 assists.

GU senior Darriyan Thomas (Vallejo, Calif.) led the team with a double-double (12 kills, 11 digs) while sophomore Adele Daniels (Austin, Texas) added 11 kills, two block solos and two block assists. Senior setter Jasmine Jeter (Noblesville, Ind.) passed out 28 assists while junior libero Raelyn Fuechtmann (South St. Paul, Minn.) made 21 digs and two service aces. Junior Shua Clay (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) led the defense with two block solos and three block assists.

UP NEXT
Gallaudet will hit the road for two North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) road matches this weekend. The Bison (1-1 NEAC) will first stop at College of St. Elizabeth (2-7, 1-1 NEAC) on Friday, Sept. 22, at 7 p.m.
