Bison lose lead to Muhlenberg in doubleheader sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WASHINGTON - Gallaudet University was defeated in a baseball non-conference doubleheader here Sunday by Muhlenberg College. The visiting Mules (2-0) won 3-2 and 10-4 in seven-inning games over the Bison (2-4).

Game 1: Muhlenberg 3, Gallaudet 2
The Bison trailed the Mules through four innings and were finally able to jump ahead in the bottom of the fourth.

After first baseman Ryan Gilbert (Mount Dora, Fla.) and senior third baseman Zack Crawford (Newnan, Ga.) each managed to get on base, junior Michael Ehlers (Tinley Park, Ill.) singled to right center field to bring home Gilbert as Crawford went to third. Moments later, Crawford was able to steal home to put the Bison up 2-1 over the Mules.

However, Muhlenberg responded in the fifth inning as it scored two more runs to regain the lead, 3-2. The Mules drew two walks against senior pitcher Ian Evans (Murphy, N.C.). Muhlenberg came through with a RBI-single before a throwing error allowed a second run to score.

Evans pitched a complete game as he allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits, three walks and five strikeouts.

Game 2: Muhlenberg 10, Gallaudet 4
The Bison fell behind early in the second game as the visiting Mules scored three runs in the second inning and five runs in the third as they held an early 8-0 lead.

Muhlenberg added two more runs in the fourth before Gallaudet got on the scoreboard. Down by 10, GU went to work to cut into the Mules' lead.

Ehlers singled to left field to plate sophomore shortstop Cameron Upton (Vicksburg, Miss.). Freshman Ben Meyer (Monroe, Mich.) grounded into a double play but not before Crawford scored from third base.

Muhlenberg emptied its bench in the later innings as Gallaudet tacked on two additional runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Freshman Connor Rosko (Austin, Texas) and Meyer picked up RBI after a ground out and single, respectively.

Junior pitcher Dylan Hayes (Endicott, N.Y.) took the loss as he allowed eight runs on 11 hits in three innings.
