GU win streak snapped by Penn St.-Berks on the road

READING, Pa. - The Gallaudet University women's volleyball suffered a straight set loss to Penn St.-Berks here Wednesday night in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Division match. 

Gallaudet (11-10, 3-2 NEAC) saw its four-game winning streak from last weekend snapped as the Nittany Lions (7-9, 4-1 NEAC) came out strong in the first set and converted 15 of 26 attack attempts with only one error for an impressive .538 attack percentage. Penn St.-Berks grabbed the first two sets by the same 25-13 margin. Alexis Horst (11 kills, 12 digs) helped to serve the Nittany Lions to victory in the first set as they took a 13-3 lead after seven straight points scored. In the second set, Morgan Schwartz (33 assists, five aces) was the difference as she broke open a 10-9 lead to 17-9.

The Nittany Lions scored the first six points in the third set and increased their margin to 14-4 and later 19-8 before winning 25-17.

Sophomore outside hitter Adele Daniels (Austin, Texas) led the Bison with nine kills while reigning NEAC Player of the Week Darriyan Thomas (Vallejo, Calif.) recorded seven kills and 13 digs.

Gallaudet, the seven-time defending NEAC champions, were without the services of its senior setter. Freshman setter Kameron Kinast (Austin, Texas) took things over and finished with 19 assists and nine ball handling errors.

  • GU finished with 22 kills on 94 attempts and 13 errors (.096 percentage)

Gallaudet remains on the road this Friday (Oct. 6) when it travels to Frederick, Md., to play Hood College (4-15) at 5 p.m.
