Gallaudet completes Spring Break trip with loss to Babson

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Gallaudet University baseball team was shut out here Thursday, 10-0, as Babson College freshman starting pitcher Michael Genaro handcuffed the Bison batters through seven innings, striking out four batters and walked just one batter. Sophomore pitcher John Floegel pitched the last inning in relief, sealing the 10-run win in an eight-inning game.

Gallaudet (4-15) couldn't advance a runner past first base, grounding into double plays twice and was caught stealing once. Bison junior starting pitcher Blake Phillips (Dalton, Ga.) (1-4) took the loss as he pitched 5.2 innings, surrendering nine hits, a home run and seven earned runs, walking four batters and striking out one. Senior Ben Coleman (St. Paris, Ohio) pitched the final 1.1 innings, giving up four hits and allowed three runs.

Babson College (4-2) senior catcher Joe Barry led the Beavers attack with three hits, driving in two runs and scoring twice. Junior first baseman Jack Halpin hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Gallaudet concludes its Spring Break trip participating in the RussMatt Invitational with a 1-5 record and will return home to host Hood College on Wednesday, March 23, at 3:30 p.m.
