Bison clipped by Cardinals, 12-1

Box Score

WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University baseball team lost to neighboring Catholic University of America, 12-1, on an overcast and cool Wednesday afternoon at Hoy Field.

Junior Brad Stockdill (New Castle, Pa.) had a lead-off triple to start the ninth inning for the Bison (1-12). Stockdill then scored on a sacrifice fly by freshman Kyle Gumm (Dallas, Texas) as GU ended Catholic's bid for a shutout.

Catholic (11-2-1) scored three runs in the first and third innings before plating four in the fifth and two in the eighth as the Cardinals collected 17 hits, including seven extra-base hits. The Cardinals substituted freely and often as 24 different players saw action in the nine-inning non-conference game.

Sophomore starting pitcher Blake Phillips (Dalton, Ga.) took the loss as he allowed 10 runs on 13 hits, two walks and one strikeout in five inning pitched. Freshman Dylan Hayes (Endicott, N.Y.) led the Bison with two hits.

Gallaudet will next face top-ranked Salisbury University on the road Sunday, March 29, at 1 p.m.
