Bison lose on the road at Castleton

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Gallaudet University football team was shutout, 40-0, on the road Saturday against Castleton University in an Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) game before 2,456 at Spartan Stadium.

Castleton (4-2, 2-1 ECFC) scored points on its first four possessions as the Spartans built up a 20-0 lead in the first half and didn't look back. Gallaudet (0-5, 0-3 ECFC) made two turnovers that led to six points for Castleton kicker Bobby Lineberger, who made two field goals of 35 and 24 yards, respectively.

In the second half, Castleton scored back-to-back touchdowns on its first two possessions. Moe Harris returned the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown. After a GU three-and-out that led to a punt, the Spartans marched 62 yards on seven plays for another score. Harris (24 carries, 130 yards) tallied his third touchdown on the day with a three-yard run as Castleton led 34-0.

Freshman quarterback Ramon Johnson (Sylmar, Calif.) competed 19 of 40 passes for 155 yards and was intercepted twice. Freshmen wide receivers Lawrence Watson (Fayetteville, N.C.) and Dylan Mento (Hammonton, N.J.) made six catches for 60 and 58 yards, respectively.  Freshman Kahan Louissaint (Gaithersburg, Md.) was GU's top rusher with nine carries for 34 yards while freshman Austin Hundley (McKee, Ky.) carried the ball 15 times for 31 yards.

On defense, junior Carneilus Smith (Chesapeake, Va.) with 12 tackles while freshman Daequan Taylor (Hampton, Va.) and junior Jacy Pedersen (Newark, Calif.) made 11 tackles each. Freshman Louie Akuffo (Bowie, Md.) and freshman Richard Harty (Montville, N.J.) added 10 and eight tackles, respectively.

BISON TRACKS

  • Sean Fenton (Chicago, Ill.) recorded GU's lone sack, a loss of five yards
  • The Bison defense had six tackles for a loss of 18 yards, two pass breakups and one quarterback hurry
  • This is the 10th loss in a row for the Bison dating back to last season
  • GU lost 21-0 against Castleton last season on Nov. 8 at Hotchkiss Field
  • The last time Gallaudet was shutout was on Nov. 15 in a 26-0 loss against SUNY Maritime
