Box Score 2 GETTYSBURG, Pa. – A new season got underway for Gallaudet University as the women's volleyball team split the first two matches of the 2014 campaign here Friday at the Battlefield Classic in Gettysburg, Pa. The Bison defeated Marietta in straight sets before it fell to nationally ranked Eastern University, 3-0, in the evening.
Senior Kali Frowick (Norfolk, Neb.) led the Bison (1-1) in the opening match of the day as she recorded 16 kills on 37 attempts and nine digs in the 25-22, 25-22, 25-21 victory over the Pioneers. Juniors Molly Perkins (Apple Valley, Minn.) and Danielle Morris (St. Louis, Mich.) added eight and seven kills, respectively, while fellow junior TraciAnn Hoglind (Fishers, Ind.) passed out 37 assists.
The Bison had their hands full with No. 15 Eastern (2-0) in the second match of the day. The Eagles made quick work of the Bison winning in straight sets; 25-13, 25-12, 25-17. GU's attack percentage dipped, compared to its numbers in the first match, as Frowick was held to seven kills and Morris to just five in the loss. Morris added three service aces, one block solo and one block assist.
GU will face Carnegie Mellon University and Muhlenberg College on Day 2 of the Battlefield Classic tomorrow (Saturday, Aug. 30) at noon and 2 p.m., respectively.
