WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University baseball team won its first game back from spring break Sunday afternoon at Hoy Field against Frostburg State University as the Bison came from behind to win, 3-1, in nine innings.

The Bison (11-7) went down early as the Bobcats (13-4) struck first, scoring one run in the opening inning. Frostburg would hold on to its one-run lead throughout most of the game.

In the seventh inning, the Bison took over as they scored three runs. Senior Chris Guinn (McLoud, Okla.) got the scoring started with a single to left field that plated fellow senior William Bissell (Brewer, Maine) to knot the game at one. Two batters later, freshman first baseman Justin Strong (Charlotte, N.C.) doubled home Guinn and junior Mitchell Bensman (Russia, Ohio), who singled prior to Strong's at-bat.

Gallaudet received two strong pitching performances from their top arms, sophomore Danny O'Donnell (Olney, Md.) and junior Brandon Holsworth (Beal City, Mich.). O'Donnell (3-1) settled down after the first inning as he went on to pitch seven innings, face 30 batters, allow five hits, four walks and struck out five. Holsworth finished off the game with two innings of scoreless relief where he struck out four batters to earn his second collegiate save of his career.

Frostburg recorded season low totals for runs (one), hits (five) and extra-base hits (zero) in a game. The Bobcats entered today's game averaging 9.25 runs per game through its first 16 games of the season.

The Bobcats had defeated the Bison the past three seasons by an average of 3.67 runs per game. Prior to the 2011 season the last time GU and Frostburg played was in 1992.

Gallaudet will look to continue its success on Tuesday, March 25, at Hoy Field as the Bison play host to St. Mary's (Md.) College at 3 p.m.
