ROANOKE, Va. – The Gallaudet University
men's and women's swimming and diving teams were back in the pool
Saturday, a day after hosting a home meet, as the Bison traveled
here to the campus of Hollins University. The GU men's team
narrowly lost to Greensboro College, 78-72, while the women's team
defeated Guilford College, 123-48 but lost 110-77 to Greensboro and
146-59 to the host Hollins.
Bison swimmers continue to improve on personal best times as
many personal records were set.
Matthijs
Wubbolts (Groningen, Netherlands) won the
100-yard freestyle as he touched the wall in 53.40 seconds while
sophomore Seth
Washington (Frederick, Md.) was third with a time
of 1:03.56, which is a new personal best time. Wubbolts was second
in the 100 breaststroke as he set a new personal best time of
1:11.18. He was also second in the 50 free (24.78) while
freshman Nathan
Parkin (Elgin, Ill.) improved on his time with
28.82 seconds. Junior Abdiel
Davila-Cruz (Orlando, Fla.) was second in the 200
IM (2:22.85) with a new personal best and he placed second in the
100 butterfly (1:08.33) and second in 100 backstroke (1:10.72).
On the women's side, Alexandra
Camell (Minneapolis, Minn.) improved her times in
two different events as she lowered her 50 freestyle time to 32.31
seconds and her 100 freestyle (1:16.60). Brianna
Stroud-Williams (Tucker, Ga.) took third in the
1,000 freestyle with a time of 14:02.54 while Thyra
Wood (Great Falls, Mont.) was fourth in the 50
freestyle (28.94). Junior Paige
Foreman (Albuquerque, N.M.) was fourth in the 100
butterfly (1:36.53) and fifth in the 200 IM
(3:01.87). Katie
Giles (Gaithersburg, Md.) was fifth in the 100
freestyle (1:06.64).
Shuxu Tian
(Tongling, China) cut 20 seconds off her best time in the 100
freestyle (1:55.41). Freshman Faye
Frez-Albrecht (Canton, Conn.) shaved 10 seconds off
her best time in the 100 backstroke (2:05.81)
Gallaudet's women's team will next host conference foe Cedar
Crest College on Saturday, Nov. 8, while the men's team is off
until Friday, Nov. 14, at home against Marymount (Va.) University
at 6 p.m.
