WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team finished with an 1-3 record after hosting the seventh annual Worthington Classic held at the Field House this weekend. The Bison began the tournament with a quick start, beating the North Park Vikings in four sets, but was unable to sustain momentum as they lost the next three matches.

The Bison dropped consecutive tough matches on Saturday to Marymount (Va.) University, 3-2, and Messiah College, 3-1. After competing in the final game to close out day one, the Bison faced a quick turnaround leading into their 12:30 p.m. match against Marymount (Va.). Gallaudet got off to a quick start, taking down Marymount in the first two sets 25-19, and 26-24. The Saints were able to adjust and take control as they won the next three sets decisively, 12-25, 13-25, and 12-15.

Junior outside hitter Kali Frowick (Norfolk, Neb.) led the Bison as she posted her fifth consecutive double-double, posting one against both Marymount and Messiah. Frowick totaled 38 kills and 30 digs on Saturday, including an impressive game against Marymount as she tallied 21 kills and 15 digs. Senior opposite hitter Lane Peters (Phoenix, Ariz.) was selected to the all-tournament team, as she posted 30 kills and 22 digs in two matches on Saturday. Sophomore libero Kate Fetzer (Noblesville, Ind.) had a team-high 53 digs in the two Saturday games.

In the Bison's final match of the tournament, they dropped the first two sets to Messiah, 15-25 and 18-25, Gallaudet fought back to win a close third set, 25-23. The Bison traded leads with the Falcons early in the fourth set but were unable to sustain a lead as Messiah (8-7) pulled ahead to win, 25-18.

Whittier College (10-6) came out as champions of the Worthington Classic in impressive fashion, as the Poets won the tournament with four wins, done without dropping a set. Gallaudet has won this tournament, named in honor of legendary Gallaudet coach Peg Worthington, three different times.
