Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University baseball team split a doubleheader with North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) foe Penn St.-Abington on Saturday afternoon at Hoy Field. The Bison lost the first game 11-5 and won the second game 4-3 in eight innings.

Gallaudet (15-18, 7-3 NEAC) won its fourth extra-inning game this season when senior first baseman Jeremy Adams (Glenn Dale, Md.) hit a walk-off single up the middle to score senior shortstop Tommy Barksdale (Brookeville, Md.) with one out. Barksdale reached on a triple, his sixth of the season, and Penn St.-Abington (18-17, 8-2 NEAC) walked the next two Bison batters to load the bases and set the stage for Adams.

The Bison led 3-1 heading into the sixth but the Nittany Lions manufactured one run and then tied the game at three in the seventh on a RBI-single by Bill Parave (3-for-4) to score Dustin Kology. GU went down in order in the bottom half of the seventh.

Sophomore pitcher Brandon Holsworth (Beal City, Mich.) was a workhorse for the Bison as he pitched all eight innings to secure his fifth complete game of the season. Holsworth (4-4) allowed three runs on 10 hits, walked two and struck out five in the win. Junior left fielder JJ Klein (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Adams went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Barksdale finished the game 1-for-3, triple, run scored and a walk.

Tom Ditro (0-1) suffered the loss for Penn St.-Abington after coming into pitch in the eighth inning.

The Nittany Lions jumped all over the Bison in the first game as the visitors scored seven runs in the top of the first inning to set the tone.

Gallaudet tried to rally in the bottom of the second inning as the Bison scored four times. Two of the runs came home on a double by Holsworth down the right field line. It was only his fourth at-bat of the season and his first hit, extra-base hit and RBIs of the season. Klein and freshman Ryan Rippy (Tullahoma, Tenn.) both had RBI singles in the four-run inning.

Junior starting pitcher Chris Guinn (McLoud, Okla.) got knocked around as he pitched five innings where he allowed eight runs (six earned) on 11 hits, three walks and three strikeouts. The Bison pulled to within three, 8-5, after five innings before junior Tyler Crace (Westfield, Ind.) gave up three runs on three hits and two walks over the final two innings.

Daniel Hill (2-4) earned the win for the Nittany Lions as he went the distance and surrendered five runs on seven hits, walked one and struck out four Bison.

Gallaudet will play NEAC foe Penn St.-Berks (10-19, 6-4 NEAC) in the final home regular-season games of the season at Hoy Field tomorrow (Sunday, April 21) at 1 p.m.
